چکیده
John E. Randall, Gerald R. Allen and D. Ross Robertson (2003) Myripristis earlei, a new soldierfish (Beryciformes: Holocentridae) from the Marquesas and Phoenix Islands. Zoological Studies 42(3): 405-410. The common holocentrid fish in the Marquesas Islands, previously regarded as an insular variant of the wideranging Myripristis berndti, is described as a new species, M. earlei, after discovering a typical M. berndti in the islands and also finding the species in the Phoenix Islands with M. berndti. No meristic or proportional measurement differences were found to separate the 2 species, and no mtDNA differences were detected. Myripristis earlei differs from M. berndti by lacking or having only a few small scales on the lower 1/2 of the pectoral-fin axil; the lower jaw of adults not as strongly projecting; the leading edges of the soft dorsal, anal, and caudal fins not white; and the spinous portion of the dorsal fin red instead of being orange-yellow on the outer part as in M. berndti. http://www.sinica.edu.tw/zool/zoolstud/42.3/405.pdf

Myripristis murdjan (Beryciformes: Holocentridae) a new host record for Cymothoa indica (Crustacea, Isopoda, Cymothoidae)
Myripristis murdjan, the Pinecone soldierfish, is a common coral-reef species usually found in shallow lagoons and seaward reefs, is nocturnal, and feeds mainly on larger animals of the zooplankton. It is widely distributed from the Red Sea, including the gulf of oman and east of africa, to oceania, being one of the important commercial species in Egyptian markets. In aquatic systems parasites ...
متن کاملMolecular phylogenetics of squirrelfishes and soldierfishes (Teleostei: Beryciformes: Holocentridae): reconciling more than 100 years of taxonomic confusion.
Squirrelfishes and soldierfishes (Holocentridae) are among the most conspicuous species in the nocturnal reef fish community. However, there is no clear consensus regarding their evolutionary relationships, which is reflected in a complicated taxonomic history. We collected DNA sequence data from multiple single copy nuclear genes and one mitochondrial gene sampled from over fifty percent of th...
متن کاملHigh genetic connectivity across the Indian and Pacific Oceans in the reef fish Myripristis berndti (Holocentridae)
To assess patterns of connectivity among populations of an Indo-Pacific reef fish, we surveyed mtDNA of the bigscale soldierfish Myripristis berndti (Holocentridae), which is concentrated on reefs at intermediate depths, but occurs to at least 160 m. Our multi-scale approach included sampling at 11 sites spanning the entire range of the species from the western Indian Ocean to the eastern Pacif...
متن کاملPhylogeography of two Atlantic squirrelfishes (Family Holocentridae): exploring links between pelagic larval duration and population connectivity
Genetic surveys of reef fishes have revealed high population connectivity within ocean basins, consistent with the assumption that pelagic larvae disperse long distances by oceanic currents. However, several recent studies have demonstrated that larval retention and self-recruitment may be higher than previously expected. To assess connectivity in tropical reef fishes, we contribute range-wide ...
متن کاملA new species of Comephoronema (Nematoda: Cystidicolidae) from the squirrelfish Holocentrus adscensionis (Beryciformes: Holocentridae) off Brazil.
A new nematode species, Comephoronema multipapillatum sp. n. (Cystidicolidae), is described from the anterior intestine and caecum of the squirrelfish Holocentrus adscensionis (Osbeck) (Beryciformes: Holocentridae) collected in Angra dos Reis, State of Rio de Janeiro, offshore Brazil. The new species was placed in Comephoronema Layman, 1933 by having an oval oral aperture, four submedian labia,...
